Programs: Healthcare Access
Farmworkers often experience occupational injuries and illnesses that go untreated due to various challenges like a lack of health insurance or familiarity with the U.S. healthcare system, transportation, cultural and linguistic barriers, and immigration status. We work with community partners to enhance access to health care services for farmworkers and their families through the development of resources and the provision of training and technical assistance to health centers.
According to health center data, approximately 25 percent of farmworkers and their family members seek health care at a community health center. Community health centers that serve farmworkers and their families receive federal funds under Section 330(g) of the Public Health Service Act. Farmworker Justice is a National Training and Technical Assistance Partner (NTTAP) funded by HRSA to improve health outcomes for farmworkers and their families.
We work with community partners to author and publish resources including booklets, fact sheets and brochures – available in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Indigenous languages – all aimed at informing farmworkers about how to navigate the healthcare system to get the care they need. We also provide trainings on issues affecting farmworker health through webinars and presentations to health centers and farmworker-serving organizations.
