Policy: Healthcare Access
Farmworkers face a litany of challenges when accessing healthcare, including lack of health insurance and language barriers. Farmworker Justice works with partners, government agencies and lawmakers to address these barriers and improve health outcomes for farmworkers and their families.

AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) ensures access to affordable and comprehensive health insurance for eligible low-income individuals. Farmworker Justice played an integral role in ensuring that ACA was accessible to eligible farmworkers and their families. Farmworker Justice also worked with national partners and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure workers were informed about their eligibility and connected to navigators to help them enroll in and use their health insurance. LANGUAGE ACCESS
Aside from bureaucratic and geographical challenges, farmworkers also face entrenched cultural and language barriers that impede their access to healthcare. Farmworker Justice works with community partners and federal agencies to ensure the provision of adequate language resources at health care providers in adherence with the provisions of the Affordable Care Act and the National CLAS Standards. All informational materials we create for farmworkers are translated into the languages spoken by farmworkers.
